Progression That Doesn't Waste Your Time
Every mobile RPG has a progression loop. The question is whether that loop respects the fact that you're probably playing in short, interrupted bursts. The best ones give you a clear next goal you can reach in one session, not a wall you can only climb by playing for hours you don't have.
The trap a lot of games fall into is padding. They stretch the numbers so leveling slows to a crawl, hoping you'll get impatient. Good design does the opposite: it front-loads meaningful choices, like a skill you actually feel in combat, so the grind feels like sculpting a character rather than filling a bar.
When I review something like Emberfall Legends, I watch the mid-game closely. That's where padding shows. If the encounters start feeling identical and the level-ups stop changing how I play, the design has run out of ideas. If new options keep opening up, I stay.
My advice for players: pay attention to how you feel around hour five. That's the honest test. The tutorial dazzle fades, and what's left is either a loop you want to keep pulling or a chore dressed up as progress.
