Iron Dominion

★★★★☆ 4.2 Editor rating

Iron Dominion asks you to think like a governor and a general at once. You settle regions, balance food against steel, and negotiate with AI factions that hold grudges. The map is handsome and readable, which matters on a phone screen, and the turn structure means you can play a move at a bus stop and pick it up hours later.

Diplomacy is the standout. The AI factions have memories and personalities, so a broken treaty three turns ago shapes how they treat you now. Warfare is deliberate rather than flashy; you win by supply lines and terrain more than by clicking fast, which suits mobile play.

It's dense, and the tutorial only gets you so far. But if you like strategy games that reward patience, this one has real staying power. I've restarted three campaigns just to try different opening strategies.
